India vs Pakistan World Cup 2019: Virat Kohli is now the fastest to bring up 11,000 ODI runs. He reached the milestone in only his 222nd innings. The record was held by Sachin Tendulkar for nearly 17 years.

irat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the fastest cricketer to reach 11,000 runs in one-day internationals. Kohli needed 57 runs before the start of India’s high-profile World Cup 2019 match against Pakistan at Old Trafford on Sunday to join an elite list.

Sachin Tendulkar had reached the 11,000-run mark in ODIs against England on January 28, 2002 in Kanpur. He had taken 276 innings and 284 ODIs to get there while Virat Kohli brought up his 11,000th ODI run in only his 222nd innings and 230th ODI. While Tendulkar reached the milestone 12 years and 41 days after his debut in 1989, Kohli needed a little less than 11 years.

Virat Kohli is also closing in on Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most hundreds in ODIs. Tendulkar retired with 49 hundreds, Virat Kohli has 41 hundreds already.

Overall, Virat Kohli is the 9th player after Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardene, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Jacques Kallis and Sourav Ganguly to score 11,000 ODI runs. Kohli is the 3rd Indian in the elite list after Tendulkar and Ganguly.

Virat Kohli is expected to break most of Sachin Tendulkar’s record in one-day internationals.

Earlier in 2019, Virat Kohli swept all 3 ICC awards. He won the ODI Player of the Year, Test Player of the Year and the Cricketer of the Year. Kohli has been in sensational form over the last 4 years – since World Cup 2015, he has been the most prolific run-scorer in ODIs.

This is now an India No.1 and No.2 in the fastest men to 11,000 ODI runs.

Ricky Ponting is 3rd in the list. He had reached the landmark in 286 innings while Sourav Ganguly made it in 288 innings. Kallis took 293 innings, Sangakkara 318 and Inzamam 324. Jayasuriya reached the 11,000-run mark in 354 innings while Jayawardene is the slowest – he took 368 innings to bring up 11,000 runs.
