Hilary Duff is officially ‘SUITING UP’ in an upcoming reboot, but to clear up any confusion, think less Lizzie McGuire and more Barney Stinson…
We may not have gotten the Lizzie McGuire reboot we were all desperately hoping for. Still, Hilary Duff is set to star in the next best thing: “Where’s your suit?! Suit up!” we gotta admit, she’s kinda a natural…But after multiple attempts, Hulu has greenlit a 10-episode sequel series to CBS and 20th Television’s How I Met Your Mother, to be called How I Met Your Father, with Hilary set to star in the upcoming series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reboot will be spearheaded by This Is Us and Love, Victor showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, and the original How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas to executive produce.
Hilary will reportedly take on the lead role and narrator Sophie, according to Hulu’s official logline for the show, which states, “In the near future, Sophie is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.” Hilary will also be credited as a producer on the show, and I’d be willing to place a ‘Slap Bet’ or two that she’ll totally crush this all-new role.
Hilary also stated her own as a “huge fan of How I Met Your Mother,” saying, “I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie. I’m honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby.” She concluded her statement by adding, “Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6½’s in there!”
As many fans of the original 9-season run of the series know, the show’s ending was met with massive amounts of criticism over what many thought to be a grand reveal, only for Ted to end up with… OK, I won’t spoil it for the people who want to jump on the bandwagon seven years later.
Although fans are excited to see Hilary take on a brand new role, some aren’t quite over the fact that Disney+’s Lizzie McGuire reboot was canceled last year. ‘Lizzie McGuire’ instantly began trending on social media as fans demanded that they bring back the idea of the previous Disney sitcom rather than an entirely different show. One person tweeted, “We all just wanted a Lizzie McGuire reboot, not a How I Met Your Mother sequel with Hilary Duff.”
Others were torn over whether to support Hilary while not supporting yet another reboot, like this person who said, “Do I want a HIMYM spinoff? No. Do I want to support Hilary Duff, especially since Lizzie McGuire isn’t happening? Yes. You see the position this puts me in?”
More details, including a premiere time frame and whether any of the original cast will make appearances throughout the 10-episode run, have not yet been revealed. Still, we’ll do our best to update you as soon as new info becomes available.
