‘Mean Girls’ Star Jonathan Bennett DISALLOWED From Wedding Venue For Being Gay

‘mean girls' star jonathan bennett disallowed from wedding venue for being gay

“Mean Girls” star Jonathan Bennett and his fiancé just made history as the first LGBTQ+ couple on the cover of the wedding magazine ‘The Knot.’ Still, in their interview, they revealed something really horrible that happened to them due to homophobia. Let’s get into it.

Fans first fell in love with Jonathan Bennett for his role as Aaron Samuels in Mean Girls. He’s since had roles on shows like Awkward, Supergirl, and he’s become a major Hallmark movie star. Jonathan also hosts cooking competition shows like Cake Wars and Halloween Wars. And while he was on a press tour for Halloween Wars, he was interviewed by his now fiancé, Celebrity Page TV host Jaymes Vaughan.

The two got engaged in November 2020, and they’re already making significant waves before they officially tie the knot. Jonathan and Jaymes are featured on the cover of popular wedding magazine The Knot’s summer issue.

Jonathan took to Instagram to share his reaction to this historic moment, writing, “This is what representation and history looks like! When the @theknot asked us to be the first LGBTQ+ couple on the cover, we were filled with so many emotions but mostly pure joy.”

And while wedding planning has been a primarily joyous experience for these two, in their interview with The Knot, Jonathan got honest about the roadblocks they’ve faced because they are a gay couple. At first, their wedding dreams were shattered when they were told they couldn’t host their ceremony at the resort they first had in mind because of their sexual orientation.

Jonathan explained that when it comes to wedding planning, “As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, you don’t just need to feel safe — you need to feel celebrated.” He got honest about the experience of being turned away by the venue they had their eye on.

Jonathan said, “For years, we planned to get married at Palace Resorts in Mexico. When we got engaged, the owner said he couldn’t marry us because we’re two men and it goes against his morals. That was a sucker punch to the gut.” While this moment was highly upsetting, Jonathan continued and said that it motivated them to make a difference in the wedding world.

He said, “We decided in that moment that our wedding was bigger than us. It’s our wedding, but it isn’t just about us. It’s about the LGBTQ+ community. We’re really making a point to make this wedding very loud on purpose.”

Jonathan added that they “want to make sure that they are celebrated every moment and don’t feel a sense of otherness. The otherness needs to be removed from gay weddings.” And with that, the couple also launched an LGBTQ+ travel adventure company called OUTbounders as a “place where the community feels safe and celebrated.”

So as for the official wedding plans for these two, Jonathan says that they’ll “be outside, near the ocean, up on this beautiful platform alongside a tropical jungle. Simple and classic with a masculine vibe. And roses.”

And the UNICO Hotel will be hosting them, and Jaymes says that the hotel has not only shown them that they are welcome there, but they are excited to host their wedding as they should be! Fans have been showing their support to Jonathan and Jaymes and were so excited to see them on the cover of The Knot.

Final thoughts!

They have been commenting on Jonathan’s post, saying how proud they are of them and how their history-making cover is the “best news they’ve seen in weeks.” And we can’t wait to see more from these adorable soon-to-be husbands; we know their wedding is going to be incredible!

We’ll keep you posted if we hear more details about their upcoming nuptials. But for now, if you want more on Jonathan Bennett, stick around for more exciting news. Let us know in the comments below what you think of Jonathan and Jaymes’ interview with The Knot.
