Miley Cyrus is set to take the SNL stage next weekend with guest host and tech billionaire Elon Musk but is also taking some serious heat from fans for promoting the upcoming gig as they accuse Elon of destroying the planet.
Miley Cyrus is set to make her return to Saturday Night Live next weekend, as she was recently announced as a musical guest, alongside the evening’s guest host and founder of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk. The upcoming performance will mark Miley’s 6th SNL appearance, and needless to say, she’s no stranger to the name of the game, AKA getting fans excited for her performance.
On Wednesday, she and Elon exchanged in some comical Twitter banter when one user Photoshopped Elon’s face onto Miley swinging a wrecking ball, to which he responded, “Might be something there.”
Miley responded to Elon’s suggestion by saying, “I’m down if you are! #MileyAndMusk to the moon!” but was met with immediate criticism by fans for promoting the show with someone they believe allegedly destroys the planet and whose company Tesla allegedly mistreats women.
Some users responded to Miley’s tweet with comments like, “Delete this, we will pretend that we didn’t see,” and, “She has to promote the episode with him guys…..she has no choice. SNL is making her do it #MileyAndMusk.”
The criticism over his hosting gig became so intense that Elon’s girlfriend Grimes was forced to step in and defend him in the comments section of her recent TikTok video, where she debuts her sword dancing skills.
She responded to one user who asked how she could be “sleeping with the man who literally destroys the planet and humanity,” writing, “How is he doing these things? His whole career is about making travel/house power etc. sustainable and green. It’s worth a deep dive.”
Others began chiming in, asking her to address claims ranging from how he spends his considerable wealth, his treatment of women, and even if he’s a men’s rights activist.
Grimes, who gave birth to her and Elon’s son this time last year, provided examples debunking all of those rumors, saying, “He’s not [a men’s rights activist]. Def he’s been very immature at points on Twitter but for example, the president of SpaceX is a woman, as is his right-hand at Neuralink etc.”
And this person addressed the fact that Elon and his 173 billion dollar net worth is basically rich enough to end mass hunger, to which Grimes clapped back by saying, “Just throwing $ doesn’t solve it. He’s trying to focus on the issues he knows he can solve and they r real essential issues.”
Miley has yet to respond to the backlash she received, but even some of the SNL cast has openly shown their distaste for his upcoming appearance. SNL newcomer Bowen Yang didn’t hold back when sharing his thoughts, responding to a tweet Elon posted, saying, “What the f**k does this even mean,” while Cast member Aidy Bryant was a little more subtle with her shade, reposting a quote from Bernie Sanders that read, “The 50 wealthiest people in America today own more wealth than the bottom half… that is a moral obscenity.”
Although Miley has yet to respond to the criticism she received for promoting her upcoming SNL appearance, there’s no question next Saturday’s show will be interesting, to say the least…
