We all know Miranda Cosgrove and Jennette McCurdy used to be best friends, but with Jennette sitting out of the new iCarly reboot, fans have been wondering where their friendship stands today. Let’s get into it!
Miranda Cosgrove and Jennette McCurdy played best friends Carly Shay and Sam Puckett on iCarly for the show’s six seasons.
The original series ended in 2012, but in 2020, it was announced that iCarly would be getting a reboot with leading cast members! Original cast members Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress, and Jerry Trainor all signed on to reprise their iCarly roles, but Jennette notably turned down the opportunity.
During an episode of her podcast “Empty Inside,” Jennette revealed that she has quit acting and is “embarrassed” by her former roles like Sam on ‘iCarly.’ And while they didn’t recast the role of Sam, multiple outlets revealed that Carly would have a new best friend for the reboot. According to Deadline, Carly will have a new best friend and roommate named Harper, played by Laci Mosley.
The show is currently in production and is expected to come out this summer on Paramount+. But as all the news about the iCarly reboot swirls around, if you’re wondering where Miranda and Jennette stand as friends today, you’re not alone. Ever since iCarly ended, the two continued to show support for one another and even referred to each other as best friends back in 2017.
Miranda completely gushed over Jennette during this interview with BUILD. “My best friend is Jennette McCurdy who was on iCarly with me and we live really close to each other and we have sleepovers all the time and I literally see her like every other day.”
And she continued on saying that while she’s made friends on every show she’s worked on, it was extraordinary getting to work alongside her BFF Jennette. “Especially with iCarly it was so fun being best friends with Jennette and getting to travel all over and getting to go through something like that with your best friend. It was really fun.”
That same year, Jennette took to Instagram to share this sweet pic of herself, and Miranda captioned the photo, “I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Never, no, never. Your friendship is the best present ever.” But notably, they haven’t appeared on each other’s social media pages since 2018.
One of Miranda’s last pics with Jennette on her page was a throwback pic for Jennette’s 26th birthday where Miranda wrote, “The therapy that I didn’t have and the therapy that I now don’t need is because of my thousands of hours on the phone with her. I get to release the day. She is the friend that everybody should have. She’s the friend that everyone deserves.” Honestly, are these two friendship goals or what?
Then in August 2018, Jennette appeared on Miranda’s page as they went for a road trip with fellow actress Mia Serafino. As time went on, though, fans noticed that these two no longer posted together. Then came the announcement that Jennette wouldn’t be a part of the iCarly reboot.
And when Jennette discussed why she quit acting and how she was embarrassed by her former roles, she did note that she made some “great friendships” along the way. On her podcast, Jennette spoke about her acting career, saying quote, “I made great friends but beyond that it was just an embarrassing stain on my life that everybody knows me for.”
While yes, that sounds quite harsh, it’s her experience, and she can describe it any way that feels right for her. And while she didn’t name any names, she totally could’ve been talking about Miranda when she said “great friendships.”
The two haven’t posted about each other or talked about each other in interviews in years now, but despite going their separate ways with their careers, it doesn’t seem like there’s any bad blood between them, and there’s nothing to suggest that. Miranda and Jennette still follow each other on Instagram, and all of their photos together remain up on their feeds.
And while they haven’t appeared on each other’s socials for some time or talked about each other in recent interviews, they may be just keeping their friendship offline these days. Either way, at the very least, they haven’t spoken negatively about each other at all, and we’re glad to see that!
We’ll keep you updated if we hear anything else about their friendship. But for now, if you want more on the iCarly reboot, stick around for more thrilling news. Also, let us know what you think of Miranda and Jennette’s friendship in the comments below.
