FBR instructed Facebook, Google and YouTube to pay taxes or cease operations in Pakistan

The Federal Taxation Commission (FBR) has warned digital platforms that they will not allow Google, Facebook, and YouTube to work tax-free in Pakistan without payment.

said the Finance and Revenue Doctor of the National Assembly on Thursday. The FBR’s domestic taxation (operations) members stated that the FBR passed a Netflix tax return of Rs 1.4 billion last week.

The FBR president and the Daraz team, including Daraz managing director Ehsan Saya, both accused each other of taxing the digital platform.

The FBR president and FBR member tax bureau (policy) stated that it has reached an agreement with Daraz that they will act as tax agents and withhold only 2% of taxes on unregistered sellers. Now they have not fulfilled the agreement. FBR reduced the tax rate from 17% to 2%. The FBR had estimated Rs. $10 billion came from taxes on digital platforms.

Ehsan Saya CEO Daraz stated that it is impossible to act as a tax agent on behalf of FBR. We have shared data on registered and unregistered sellers with FBR, and Ahsan Iqbal stated that emerging industries will collapse on digital platforms due to such taxes. Need to give some time.
