Zoom takes over an AI company building real-time translation


Zoom has proclaimed that it’s getting a company referred to as Kites (short for Karlsruhe data Technology Solutions) that has worked on making real-time translation and transcription software systems. Zoom says the acquisition could be a move to assist it in creating communication with those who speak completely different languages easier. It wants to feature translation capabilities to its video conferencing app.

According to its website, Kites began at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Its technology was originally developed to act as an in-classroom translation for college students to facilitate understanding their professors were teaching in.

Zoom already has real-time transcriptions; however, it’s restricted to those that are talking in English. Zoom additionally clarifies that its current live transcription feature might not meet accuracy necessities on a support page. The company states it’s considering inaugural a research center in Germany, wherever the Kites teams are staying.
