Apple and Google can no longer solely Dominate App store Market

Senators Richard Blumenthal, Martha Blackburn, and Amy Klobuchar opposed Apple and Google with the “Open Market Act”, a new non-party antitrust law. It will stop Google and Apple from dominating the App Store market. Senators realize that the oligopoly nature of this market will not cease because the phone users either got an android phone or iOS.

The three senators called it the gatekeeper control that slows down the development of the developer industry. The bill revolves around creating a directive with clear rules that can be implemented in the App Store market. Any controller of an apps store with more than 50 million users will not force developers to use their own purchase system and allow developers to distribute their apps to other stores as well.

For Apple, this means that they must now allow users to download and install applications from sources other than the Apple Store. This also means giving users the option to use default apps in their own app Store.
This law also protects developers from negative behavior when distributing applications through secondary sources.

It also abides the tech companies to provide developers with operating system interfaces, development information, and software and hardware functions. Senator Blumenthal said that the bill will not only loosen control of these large organizations and restore competitiveness in the digital market, but also remind these organizations that if they need to catch up with the industry standards.

The senator went on to say that the actions of these companies were selfish and offended him to varying degrees. These changes are the result of a 16-month antitrust investigation against large digital companies. Apple pointed out to the media that its app store protects the application and ensures that it is safe for users and that can only be done through strict data protection guidelines.
