Today an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 struck Lasbela and other parts of Balochistan province. The NSMC confirms it happened on Friday.
The NSMC said that the earthquake originated from 80 kilometers north of Bela city in Balochistan. The earthquake also spread to Khuzdar tehsil in Wadh while Sonaro and other villages in the district saw tremors. The jolts made the population panic, and people left their homes running.
The deadly earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 at the Richter scale struck parts of Balochistan in October last year. The deadliest earthquake to hit Pakistan on record killed 22 people and injured over 200 others.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad has confirmed that the epicenter of the earthquake was 15 kilometres deep.
According to Deputy Commissioner Harnai Anwar Hashim, over 100 houses in the region have collapsed with people trapped. Dozens of public and private buildings have sustained damage in parts of Balochistan.
The Baluchistan area of Harnai is experiencing the worst effects from the quake.
