Floodwater sweeping away buildings and bridges along a river in central Nepal
A flash flood along the Budhi Gandaki River in Nepal's Gorkha district has destroyed four bridges and nearly two dozen houses and damaged a hydropower project, with five people still missing after 49 were rescued, according to the army and the district's top official.

A flash flood in central Nepal has carried away houses and bridges and caused damage to a hydropower project on a river, according to BBC News.

The army said on Sunday that 49 people had been pulled to safety from areas hit by the flooding, the district’s most senior official confirmed. Five people remain unaccounted for.

The flooding is thought to have been triggered by a landslide further upstream on the Budhi Gandaki River, in the Gorkha district.

Four bridges and close to two dozen homes were washed away, along with a camp belonging to a hydropower project sited beside the river.

Nepal is still working to recover from the devastating floods and landslides that struck its border towns with Tibet two months ago, BBC News reported. Those events levelled thousands of homes, wrecked essential energy infrastructure and left thousands of people dead or missing.
