A sailor died after going overboard during the 52nd Newport Bermuda Race at Newport Bermuda Race Tracker on Sunday.
According to investigators, Colin Golder of New Jersey fell off his yacht while sailing 325 miles from Bermuda in heavy winds.
The Morgan of Marietta, a 42-foot sloop, was captained by Golder.
Golder’s body was recovered by the vessel’s crew, and his yacht is on its way back to the mainland, according to racing organisers.
The Bermuda Race Organizing Committee, the Cruising Club of America, and the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club issued a statement expressing their deepest sympathies to Golder’s family and crew.
