Saudi energy minister vows response after Houthi strikes on Riyadh kill at least 14

Damage at a Saudi airport following Houthi missile strikes
Saudi Arabia's energy minister has promised to respond to Houthi attacks on the kingdom's airports and oil and gas facilities after missile strikes on Riyadh killed at least 14 people and injured more than 300.

Saudi Arabia’s energy minister has vowed to respond to attacks on the kingdom’s airports and oil and gas facilities carried out by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement.

The pledge follows Houthi missile strikes across Riyadh that killed at least 14 people and injured more than 300 in two attacks on the city’s airport.

Houthi military spokesman Brig Gen Yahya Saree said the group also struck oil facilities and Dammam airport in eastern Saudi Arabia.

The Houthis said they launched the attacks in retaliation for what they described as “brutal Saudi aggression” against areas they control in western Yemen.

BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner explained how the Houthis’ precision strikes and guerrilla tactics have made it difficult for Saudi forces to gain the upper hand.
