govt decides to remove chairman nab javed iqbal

The federal government on Tuesday announced its decision to remove National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman Justice Retired Javed Iqbal due to technical reasons.

Sources said NAB Amendment Ordinance will expire on June 2, and the federal government isn’t eager to present the bill to the NA for approval.

After the conclusion of the duration of a presidential order, the current NAS chair will then be automatically removed from the position.

On October 06, 2021 , President Arif Alvi promulgated the National Accountability second amendment ordinance 2021, giving authorities to his office to establish accountability courts and appoint judges.

The ordinance further paved the way for the retired Javed Iqbal now stands for the termination of his leadership of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) until the appointment of his successor.

Later, the Ministry of Law and Justice issued the National Accountability (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2021 following the approval of President Arif Alvi in November .

Under the new amendments that will come into force retrospectively from October 6, cases of fraud and deception with the people have been brought back within the ambit of the corruption watchdog.'
