The Guardian’s Notes and queries series is asking readers to explain why a child saying “Na-na, na-na-na!” is annoying.

Fred Corbett, from London, submitted the question. He says he recently read that children do a version of the chant in every culture and country.

The long-running Guardian feature lets readers answer questions posed by other readers. Its subjects range from light-hearted flights of fancy to scientific and philosophical concepts, according to the Guardian.

The page also links to a reader reply titled “Why are national anthems almost always orchestral?”

The Guardian says readers can post answers below or send them to [email protected]. A selection will be published next Sunday.
