British screenwriter Russell T Davies has discussed his taboo-breaking television career, and explained why he turned down James Bond, in an episode of the Guardian’s Today in Focus.
Davies, described by the Guardian as British screenwriting royalty, speaks to Helen Pidd in the episode, which runs 25 minutes and 36 seconds.
According to the Guardian, the conversation covers his work reviving Doctor Who, the explicit sex scenes he put on screen in Queer as Folk, and his decision to cast a trans actor in a trans role in Banana.
Davies also sets out his reasons for declining the James Bond role, the Guardian says, and reflects on how his thinking about the depiction of gay people on screen has shifted over the years.
The episode is distributed via Guardian Media.
