met office predicts pre monsoon 2022 rainfall in this year

Pakistan is expected to receive above-normal rainfall during the upcoming monsoon season, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Pre Monsoon 2022

The pre monsoon season is set to start in the second week of June, with the monsoon season starting in the last week of June, according to PMD’s monsoon 2022 outlook report.

This season, Punjab and Sindh are expected to receive much further above-average rainfall, while the entire country is expected to receive slightly above-average rainfall.

The first phase of the monsoon that lasts from the start of July till mid-August is predicted to be wetter than last phase which lasts from mid-August to the end of September.

It should be noted that the country’s area-weighted normal rainfall during July, August, and September is 140.8 mm, implying that total rainfall this year is expected to increase this figure.

In this regard, a PMD spokesperson stated that extreme hydro-meteorological events over catchment areas are expected, potentially leading to flooding in major rivers.

Heavy rainfall events may cause flash floods in hilly areas and urban floods in plain areas, but there will be enough water for irrigation and the power sector.'
