Karakoram International University in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan will host a three-day international conference on promoting sports tourism in the country from September 23-25.
After visiting the Hunza valley and seeing polo matches, people will watch cultural events.
The conference will have Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Ataullah Shah as convener, Associate Dean of the faculty of science, Dr. Tasawwar Baig as secretary, speakers from the U.S., Germany, and Malaysia are also participating in the conference
The conference will discuss topics such as the growth of mountain sports and adventure sports, how tourism influences these sports, a look at ant-doping laws, and much more.
Sports tourism is one of the fastest-growing industries in country, while the northern areas are ideal spots because they have five peaks above 8,000 meters and more than 100 peaks above 7,000 meters.
Chitral has hosted the Shandur Polo Festival for more than 70 years and is visited year after year by thousands of people from around the world.
The region is a great place for ice-skating during the winter season, and it can become an ideal place for ice hockey events.
