PIA to Start Hajj Flights From May 31, 2022


Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will start Hajj operations having 297 flights from May 31 and proceed till August 13, 2022.

The special airlines would be operated from eight major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, Peshawar and Quetta for Jeddah and Madinah.

PIA management gave a full briefing to Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique on the flag carrier having to work including upcoming Hajj flight operation, promotion of religious tourism besides the development in the airlines’ fleet.

According to a news release published recently, the minister asked the PIA to pay special attention to the cargo sector and submit essential recommendations for its long-term improvement.

He also requested that the Pakistan International Airlines officials renovate business-class lounges at Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad airports so that passengers in this category might receive the best possible service.

Saad Rafique asked to be using one Boeing-777 and an Airbus-320 in the Hajj flight operation as these Aeroplan were standing dormant in the hangars for a long time.

The minister was informed that the process of inducting four new planes (Airbus-32) into the PIA’s fleet had already begun, with one Airbus having arrived in Pakistan and awaiting clearance from the Customs and Federal Board of Revenue agencies, with the second expected to arrive next month.

According to Saad Rafique, the addition of new planes to the PIA fleet would strengthen the national flag carrier’s flight operations while also expanding its network.

He also ordered PIA to begin extra flights to Damascus (Syria) and Najaf (Iraq) in order to make it easier for Zaireen to go during Arbaeen and Ashura.

The PIA officials also informed the minister that the number of flights to Baku (Azerbaijan) will be raised to help Pakistani tourists, and that flights to Skardu, Gilgit, and Chitral would be added to promote tourism in the country’s attractive northern areas.

Currently, 18 weekly flights are conducted for Skardu, 24 for Gilgit, and two for Chitral, according to the PIA management. After Islamabad, these flights were being associated with other big cities like Karachi and Lahore.
