Sidhu Moosewala, a singer-turned-actor-turned-politician, was shot and killed by gangsters near his home village in Punjab’s Mansa district less than 24 hours after his security was removed by the Punjab government. He was 27 years old at the time.

Unknown attackers killed Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in Mansa village on Sunday. He was rushed to the hospital in severe condition, where he succumbed to his injuries. Two other persons were also hurt in the incident, which involved over 30 rounds being fired, according to sources.

Dr Ranjeet Rai, Civil Surgeon, Mansa Hospital, said, “Congress leader as well as Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was brought dead.”
When the attackers opened fire on the singer and his two friends, he was in his vehicle. He was sent to a nearby hospital and declared dead.
Moosewala, a native of Moosa village, made his electoral debut as a Congress candidate from Mansa in the February 2022 Assembly elections, leaving behind his famed status as a prominent Punjabi rap singer with followers all over the world.
Moosewala, who was frequently caught breaking the law yet set multiple records, had no reservations about singing couplets from his songs and posing for innumerable photos with the electorate, which was mostly made up of first-timers, during his campaigning.
The singer-turned-politician, who preferred to ride in an open jeep and had assets of Rs 7.87 crore, was facing four criminal cases, including two for obscene scenes, according to his nomination affidavit.
Moosewala joined the Congress party last year and contested for the Punjab assembly seat of Mansa, but lost. Dr Vijay Singla of the Aam Aadmi Party beat him by almost 60,000 votes.
“Deeply shocked at the broad daylight murder of Sidhu Moose Wala,” Congress politician Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted, condoling the Punjabi singer’s loss.
