A businessman named Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores has been elected mayor of Queropalca, a remote district in the Peruvian Andes, according to local election data.
The 45-year-old, who shares two of his names with the European dictators of the second world war, won the contest in Peru’s central Huánuco region and is due to take office on 1 January.
Standing for the leftwing Ahora Nación party, Flores received 229 of the 663 votes cast in the 4 October elections, the national office of electoral processes said.
His nearest rival, the far-right candidate Gaspar Osorio, took 204 votes.
Flores, who works in freight transportation, was a member of Popular Force, the party of Peru’s rightwing president Keiko Fujimori, until 2025, according to electoral authorities.
While the name is associated with Germany’s Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, a number of candidates bearing it have won elections in Peru.
The doctor Hitler Saavedra Casternoque was elected to parliament in 2021 for the centrist party Somos Peru.
In 2018, Hitler Alba Sánchez was voted in as mayor of the Andean district of Yungar, describing himself during his campaign as “the good Hitler”.
