Urdu Scholar Gopi Chand Narang Passed Away on Wednesday in Charlotte, North Carolina, after a brief illness, his son confirmed to The Hindu. The 91-year-old poet is survived by his wife, Manorma Narang, and sons Arun Narang and Tarun Narang, as well as grandchildren.
Several Urdu magazines have published numerous issues this year to celebrate Professor Narang’s life and contributions to literature. Many prominent media organisations, including Doordarshan and the BBC, have aired rare recordings and documentaries about his work and services.
Lots of books and dissertations have been published in which his work is critically praised and evaluated. In recent years, Professor Narang collaborated with author and literary translator Surinder Deol to publish English translations of his major works on Mir Taqi Mir, Ghalib, and Urdu Ghazal.
