The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee is expected to include experienced leg spinner Yasir Shah in the national squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which could be scheduled prior to the Asia Cup 2022.
The leg spinner has been an integral part of the Test side since his debut in 2014, but fitness issues forced him to return to the domestic circuit and work on his fitness to regain his form.
The cricket board’s selection committee has finished preliminary counseling sessions for the Test series against Sri Lanka, according to sources, and the leg-spinner could return to the national setup.
Before the Test series against Australia, Babar Azam stated that Yasir Shah was unfit to play, but in the same month, he put in an impressive performance during the Pakistan Cup, taking 24 wickets at an average of 22.66.
According to reports, Shan Masood will be retained in the squad, and the committee will consult with management about including him in the starting XI.
Masood played in the Australia series but did not make the playing XI. He has been in good form, as evidenced by his outstanding performances in the Pakistan Super League and the County Championship.
In the meantime, it has been reported that Kamran Ghulam’s name is being considered for the squad, and that the team will be finalised after consultation with chief selector Mohammad Wasim, coach Saqlain Mushtaq, and captain Babar Azam.
