Compared with iOS, Android apps are eight times more likely to share student data with high-risk third-parties

According to a recently published study, which details the responsibilities of how apps used in schools share student data with other third parties, the study found that most school apps transmit data easily shared with third parties. This new research was conducted and published by the non-profit organization Me2B Alliance. Promoting and Respecting the Profits of Technicians This study was randomly sampled and studied 73 different mobile applications used by as many as 38 schools, covering nearly half a million students and their teachers. The big picture from technology giants iOS and Android Me2B shows that 6 out of 10 apps in the school are sending third-party user data, and an average of 10.6 third-party data feeds receive data from each app.

According to non-profit organizations, the analysis found that most school apps (60% of them) are responsible for sending user data to various third parties. Those third parties that obtain data include major advertising platforms, of which there are two big names: Google and Facebook. Almost half of the data provided (49%) comes from Google, and 14% comes from Facebook. After careful inspection, it turns out that compared to iOS devices, Android devices are responsible for most of the data exchange.

Nearly 91% of apps on Android send data to certain risk areas, while only 26% of apps on iOS are responsible. In addition, when exchanging data with third parties, 20% of Android applications and 2.6% of iOS applications are at very high risk. According to Me2B, it is expected to release the tracking transparency feature of Apple apps with iOS 14.5 to reduce performance analysis by these third parties on Apple devices.
