Bebe Rexha is hitting back at a UK tabloid for spinning her words and claiming that she confirmed a rumored feud between fellow artists Dua Lipa and Rita Ora. Let’s get into it.
First thing’s first, Bebe Rexha is fully on board with female empowerment and has NO time for pitting women against each other… or for outlets claiming she was pitting women against each other.
On Friday, amid the excitement over the release of her second studio album Better Mistakes, Bebe was forced to do some major damage control after UK tabloid outlet The Sun posted an article with a headline that read, “Rita Ora and Dua Lipa’s Feud Will NEVER End, ‘Even Though I Tried To Help,’ Reveals Bebe Rexha.”
The miscommunication comes after Bebe sat down for an interview with the outlet. While discussing some of her collaborations on the album, which includes tracks with Doja Cat, Travis Barker, and Ty Dolla $ign, she admitted to being unsuccessful in trying to make a collaboration happen with Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, and Ava Max.
Bebe said, “I have really tried. I don’t know what’s really going on there or what the drama is. I’ve tried to always be the peace-keeper and bring the girls together. I would really love to do something together but I’m not sure that will ever happen. And I won’t say any more about that.”
Dua and Rita have never openly discussed an alleged rivalry or feud, but it is rumored that the two are believed to have bad blood because of constant comparisons between them… real talk, I’d be FLATTERED to be compared to either one of these amazing girls…
Bebe went on to talk about the competitiveness between females, adding, “It’s weird because I know how it is to be a girl and sometimes we can get really competitive. I’m not even talking about me, Dua, Rita and Ava, I’m just talking about females in general. What happens is there’s not enough women at the table.” Once the article was published, however, its headline alluded to a confirmation of this ongoing feud, which didn’t sit well with Bebe in the slightest.
She took to Twitter on Friday after getting word of the misleading claim, writing, “A UK tabloid is making up an awful story about my friends and women I admire. It’s absolute bullshit to pit women against each other, especially those who I know are GOOD PEOPLE!!! This toxic gossip is malicious and NOT F**KING TRUE!” In fact, she even explained to the outlet later in the interview that she would “love for [a collab] to happen” because “I know all of these girls individually and they’re all awesome chicks.” She added, “I’m just really f**king proud that we’re four girls with similar blood from the same place.”
The Sun has since changed the title of their article, now emphasizing the fact that Bebe admitted to ‘crying all night’ after missing out on a 2019 Grammy for her collaboration with Florida Georgia Line, “Meant To Be.” Not sure if I’d consider that title to be much “better” than the original, but at least the outlet was aware of their mistake, especially after fans rushed to Bebe’s defense.
A user tweeted, “This feels so sexist and racist too…The media is always pitting women against each other and this time it’s 3 albanian women.. Can’t all 3 thrive? Or are 3 Albanians too much to be doing well?” From the perspective of fans and people who admire these incredible women and their music, there is plenty of room for all 3 to thrive!
Thankfully Bebe has no time for the takedown of other women, and if anyone wasn’t aware of that before, they should definitely be aware now!
