Lilly Singh’s late-night show A Little Late with Lilly Singh is coming to an end, but before you get too bummed, she just revealed that some more really exciting new projects are on the way! Let’s get into it.
Two years ago, when Lilly Singh’s NBC late-night talk show, “A Little Late with Lilly Singh,” premiered, she made history as the first openly bisexual woman and the only Indian and South Asian person in America to host a late-night talk show. And after only two seasons, Lilly took to Instagram to announce that the show would be coming to an end.
She wrote, “Two years ago, I embarked on the wild journey of late night T.V. I knew this show was about more than me, and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity and support.” Lilly continued on and revealed that she will be saying goodbye to her late-night show but is excited to step into some exciting new projects.
She said, “I’m going to focus on the slate of projects my company Unicorn Island Productions is developing, and we’re saying goodbye to A Little Late with Lilly Singh. I have a desire to make longer form content telling underrepresented stories, which is difficult to execute on a nightly show.”
And so, Lilly revealed that she will continue working with NBC Universal and is also partnering with Netflix for a comedy project to bring her dreams to life. For the Netflix project, Lilly will be working with black-ish creator Kenya Barris, and Lilly is also set to star in it! How exciting!
She said that “This is just the beginning; I can’t wait to share more with you but this is all I can tease for now. I’m beyond grateful for your support– past, present and future.” Lilly concluded her post, thanking her Late with Lilly crew, saying, “I’m so proud of the progress we made in diversifying late night. We’ve given 21 people their late night debut this season. That’s pretty incredible and it’s been a true honour.”
And we couldn’t agree more, we are so proud of Lilly and the progress her show made, and hopefully, it’s just the beginning of diversifying the late-night space and beyond. So while we’re sad to see her show go, both fans and celebs rallied around Lilly and showed their support for her future projects.
Queer Eye’s Tan France wrote, “Woohoo. Such great things coming for you, and I couldn’t be happier about it! Yay for greater representation!!” Author and Podcaster Jay Shetty added, “So proud of you and excited for the next legendary move,” Her sister Tina Singh wrote, “Can’t wait to see all that comes next!”
And fans commented things like “OMG WHAT I’M SO PROUD OF YOU” and “It’s been incredible watching this journey for you! Congrats on an impactful 2 years of late night. On to new BIG THINGS making more big moves. Nothing but love.”
While others shared that they have mixed feelings and will miss her beloved late-night show. And we agree, definitely having mixed feelings that the show is ending, but we truly can’t wait to see what Lilly does next. While she’s had an incredible career path so far, we know she’s only just getting started!
She has also been posting to her page Unicorn Island Productions where she said we can follow along to stay up to date with her new projects. I know we’ll be following, and we will keep you posted if we hear anything else about Lilly’s new NBC and Netflix projects.
