Olivia Rodrigo has officially released her debut album Sour, and trust me; the songs are skippable. Let’s get into all the details and reactions from fans and celebs!
There was not a single dry eye on Twitter last night as fans tuned into the highly anticipated release of Olivia Rodrigo’s debut album Sour. With lyrics so captivating and so encompassing of “the heartbreak” we’ve all endured – whether in real life or just our heads – it’s no wonder the album has already received the recognition it truly deserves.
Not only are fans reveling in this pure pop masterpiece, but Olivia herself is also one giant ball of emotion, as she shared a series of behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram accompanied by a heartfelt caption thanking her team and her fans. She wrote, “Every song is so personal and close to my heart. Getting to share them with people is the most special thing i’ve ever done in my life.”
She went on to thank everyone who worked behind the scenes to make “this album happen” and for bringing her vision to life, adding, “Thank you to Matt Morris, Emerson Redd, John Janick, and Sam Ribak at Interscope for being so supportive and tender with my vision. thank you to Casey Smith for writing jealousy, jealousy with me and Alexander 23 for coproducing ‘good 4 u.’” Olivia also praised her fellow songwriting partner Dan Nigro and revealed that this entire body of work was done in the comfort of his own garage.
Most importantly, she concluded by thanking the fans, writing, “Whatever happens with the album I’m just so grateful I got to work with all these incredible people. And I’m so lucky songwriting and music exists. I hope you guys enjoy the 34 minutes and 46 seconds of me spilling my guts out that is called sour. thank you for helping me turn all my unhappy feelings into one of the best moments of my life.”
Well, we didn’t have to wait long for the success of Sour to be solidified! The album features 11 tracks, and I can’t even decide which one is my favorite! Not to mention, Sour is already the number one album on iTunes, AND Olivia is officially the top-selling artist across all digital platforms.
Olivia also quickly began trending on Twitter as people sent in their reactions to the album. Whether you’re currently going through heartbreak or you recall the loss of your first love, there truly isn’t one song you won’t relate to.
One person shared this meme, writing, “Olivia Rodrigo when she created sour: I’m going to create an album that has no skips.” Honestly, nothing has ever been more true! Another fan shared this photo and tweeted, “Live photo of olivia rodrigo trying to parallel park,” about a lyric from “brutal.”
Of course, Olivia addresses many instances of heartbreak on the album, and fans could not help but tie back the lyrics of certain songs to Joshua Bassett following the drama that ensued with releasing “drivers license” back in February.
Joshua’s name immediately began trending as many began to connect the dots with Olivia’s song “traitor,” which many fans believed detailed Josh’s alleged betrayal once he began dating Sabrina Carpenter shortly after their rumored split.
Fans began sharing their thoughts, like this user tweeted, “Me after listening to Traitor by Olivia Rodrigo: God it’s gonna be a rough night for Joshua Bassett.” However, more importantly, fans particularly connected with the last song on the album titled “hope ur ok” because of its important and emotional message about mental health.
Some of the lyrics include, quote, “Well, I hope you know how proud I am you were created. With the courage to unlearn all of their hatred. But, God, I hope that you’re happier today. ‘Cause I love you. And I hope that you’re okay.”
And of course, sometimes celebs are just like us because they were also fangirling over Olivia on social media! And Lucy Hale took to Olivia’s Instagram comments to write, quote, “Flawless album. Congrats gorgeous queen who will certainly be blessing us with music for your entire life.”
Olivia O’Brien tweeted, “olivia rodrigo’s album makes me wanna teleport back to high school because every word is EXACTLY how i felt as a teenager… i’m just gonna listen and pretend i am 16 and a boy just broke my heart.”
We seriously cannot wait to see what else Olivia accomplishes in her sure-to-be hugely successful career! So if you need me, I’ll just be over here streaming SOUR & being in my feels for the foreseeable future…
