72% of important links on the Internet have disappeared. Here's the reason

A new study by the Harvard Law School team shows that over time, millions of Internet links to useful resources and information are lost. Research by the New York Times found a problem related to Internet links, which can be traced back to 1988. The study examined more than 550,000 articles, including more than 2.2 million links to external sites.

It has been found that about 72% of these articles contain links to specific pages instead of links to general websites. Articles since 2018 account for almost 6% of external content. Links are broken, and up to 72% of articles were killed by 1998 articles. The latest example of Link Rot maybe Donald Trump’s Twitter ban. All the articles in his tweets are now dead.

The investigation chose the “New York Times” not only because of its filing of articles but also because the “New York Times” is no exception. The study also uses its results as an example to show that this phenomenon occurs in all situations. I am on the internet. Over time, links posted on the website containing valuable information, important context, or controversial claims will eventually no longer exist or will be bought and sold, resulting in blank pages. The Internet will generally be used in the next few years. Such a project is unlikely to solve the problem through the Internet, but at least this is a step in the right direction.
