Facebook plans to change the default breaking news setting to "on". Users (even if they didn't ask for it) will receive notifications when they get new stories on social networks

Facebook is one of the world’s largest social networks, with more than 3 billion users, where they can post photos, videos, join groups, conduct business, and even get the latest news or breaking news. One-third of people in the United States regularly read news on Facebook, while 53% often read different news types on social media. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, people spend more time on social media than on TV.

Therefore, it is also more convenient for them to read news on Facebook in addition to entertainment. One of the main reasons for reading messages on Facebook is that people can choose the category of the message according to their interests. Recently, Facebook decided to change the default breaking news notifications for all users to “ON”. This was announced in a tweet by social media consultant and industry commentator Matt Navarra.

Facebook hopes to keep users informed of the latest news through notifications, although a large proportion of them do not read news through social networks, just want to chat and chat with friends. Before this change, Facebook users can view articles in their news feed, which is based on an algorithm that displays messages to related users, and users can see the latest news at the top, and vice versa. Matt Navarra also tweeted that he was shocked that Facebook did not include the “politics” category in the personalized settings of news topics. The company may have forgotten important categories that some people may want to choose.

If Facebook did not intentionally include this category, it could be due to many reasons. Maybe social media platforms don’t want people to do this. Spreading excessively exaggerated or false political news, or maybe some people completely hate the consumption of political content due to their political negative nature, well, these are all possible diseases.

Soon, Facebook may add this important category back to the news feed. For users who do not use all channels to read only a few selected articles, changing the default notification setting to “on” may be good news. Users who don’t need any other pop-up windows can simply turn off these notifications, as shown in the screenshot below.
