According to a CIRP report, Apple is now sharing the market with Android, with 50% of new smartphone activations in the US

According to a new report from the Consumer Intelligence Research Partnership (CIRP), Apple and Google are close to each other in terms of new smartphone buyers in the United States. The results show that in the second quarter of 2021, 50% of new smartphone activations were performed on Android and iOS.

Although Apple and Android phones have roughly the same reactivation percentage, this is actually a big win for Apple. Over the years, Android accounted for 60% of the total number of new smartphone activations worldwide. On the other hand, Apple’s share in the United States has always been only 40%; however, in the second quarter of 2021, iOS finally caught up with Android.

According to CIRP co-founder Mike Levin, the main driving force behind this is loyalty and change. Interestingly, in recent years, iOS has performed better than Android in terms of loyalty and change. Mike explained that Apple not only gained market loyalty but also achieved this goal with minimal changes. It is observed that 93% of smartphone users have switched to the new iPhone.

On the other hand, 88% of Android users choose to continue to own an Android phone. In addition, in the past few years, iOS loyalty has reached nearly 5 percentage points, while Android has not seen significant growth. This is how Apple will eventually be able to provide more new smartphone activations.

The second quarter of the past five years will show you how iOS can finally catch up. Apple CEO Tim Cook has focused on loyalty and change for many years, introducing new features to help Android users seamlessly transition to the iPhone. In the phone call from Apple earlier this year, the iPhone 12 received the most update in Apple’s history.
