Palo Alto Network recently proposed research that the number of phishing attacks increased significantly between 2019 and 2021.

Phishing attacks are a form of cyber threat that involves the theft of a person’s important personal data. They are disguised as malicious links, fake websites, etc. Although people have improved awareness of cybercrime, phishing attacks continue to occur without a break.

The developers of these attacks have also matured with the Internet community as a whole, developing and producing new and more dangerous methods of accessing sensitive information. Credit card numbers, social security numbers, addresses – nothing is safe from attack so long as it can imitate to be harmless and original.

Since most of 2020 has passed in a state of closure, anyone without the required staff must work remotely. Laptops and iPads were then the sources of bread and butter for many people. However, working from home has its drawbacks. In particular, the lack of corporate firewalls and the like, Which provides decent protection against more aggressive attacks on data.

As a result, people are now more than ever exposed to the tricks of hackers and other similar criminals. This is also compounded by the fact that the use of desktop and mobile devices has increased significantly during 2020, resulting in a large group of people becoming victims of hackers. Palo Alto Networks employees started collecting data from September 2019 to April 2021.

This data is collected about firewall traffic and phishing sites detected by the URL filter. As expected, traffic and firewall usage dropped. On the other hand, URL filters end up seeing an increase in phishing sites around February 2020, and in June 2020 cases mounted up to the maximum.
