As a summary has been sent to office of the prime minister and the cabinet division in this regards, the government has decided to appoint Mr Naveed Asghar (Wapda’s member finance) authority of the Water and Power Development Authority chairman.
Accroding to reports “Following the resignation of retired Lt-Gen Muzammil Hussain, the ministry of water resources sent a summary to the PM’s office, requesting that member finance, Naveed Asghar, be given control of the new Wapda chairman.” Hopefully, the cabinet will approve it at its meeting tentatively scheduled for Wednesday,”
According to the official, the summary also mentions the need to fill the position on an ongoing basis by appointing Mr Asghar after Mr Hussain’s signed resignation. “Mr Hussain’s resignation will be accepted at the same meeting,” he said.
Mr Hussain decided to resign on Saturday, stating personal reasons, after more than five years in the position. On August 24, 2016, he was named Wapda chairman by then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, replacing Zafar Mahmood. Mr Hussain’s contract expired on August 24 of last year, but he was given a five-year extension by the PTI-led federal government.
