The chair of the Jan. 6 select committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson, said Wednesday that significant new streams of evidence have necessitated a change in the panel’s hearing schedule, including the possibility of additional hearings.

Thompson said that after the committee’s hearing on Thursday, which will focus on former President Donald Trump’s effort to use the Justice Department to help overturn the 2020 presidential election, hearings will resume in July.

Thompson, however, cautioned that the hearings couldn’t be postponed much longer because the panel needs to write its final report, which members expect to release in the fall.

Thompson said he has seen some of the footage provided by Holder, who is scheduled to speak privately with the select committee on Thursday, but not all of it. He called Holder’s video “important,” but declined to elaborate.
