The federal government is considering proposals to raise government employee salaries and pensions In Pakistan Federal Budget 2022 23, and has prepared three budget hiking up proposals for fiscal year 2022-23.
According to finance ministry sources, a 5 to 15 % increase in government employee salaries is planned; however, it is dependent on prior approval from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“The ad-hoc allowance for employees in BPS-1 to BPS-19 will be hiked by 5 to 10 percent,” they ” says adding that for BPS-20 to 22, the wages will be risen by 10 to 15 percent.
They also stated that the pension will be increased by 5 to 10%. “The pay and pension commission has yet to submit its report, which the government has directed them to do as soon as possible,” they stated.
According to the sources, any increase in perks will be dependent on IMF approval. in April 2022, the Federal government decided to withdraw a decision to raise government employee salaries announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shortly after taking office.
Miftah Ismail denied that it was a U-turn in a tweet. Showing justification of the ruling, Miftah Ismail said since salaries of the federal government employees were raised a couple of months ago, they are not raising them again.
He, said that the salary issues will be regarded in the next budget. “Meanwhile we raised pensions of retired government employees,” he noted.
